At approximately 5:15 p.m. Sunday, a tornado touched down in eastern Charlotte County along Bermont Road and State Road 31, causing damage to buildings, downing power lines and trees and strewing debris along the roadways.
Deputies found a tree down on SR 31 and a power line laying on Bermont Road. Bermont Road, which was closed east of SR 31 because of a live line across the road.
Florida Power and Light removed the live line and deputies moved the trees off the roadway, making it passable again.
