New Hampshire GOP Activists Unmask Invisible Primary (VIDEO)

CONCORD, N.H. -- In the run-up to the New Hampshire primary, local GOP activists have made choices that parallel those of the state's ordinary Republican primary voters: Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney enjoys the most support, but just as many Republicans are leaning toward other candidates.

On Sunday morning, The Huffington Post and Patch gathered a dozen of the participants in our ongoing Power Outsiders surveys in New Hampshire to watch the Republican candidates debate.

Watch the video above to see our in-person interviews with GOP activists who have been regular participants in the Power Outsiders surveys, in which they discuss their reasons for supporting the candidates that they do.

The Power Outsiders project is an ongoing effort to reach out to local Republican activists, party officials and officeholders to observe the so-called "invisible primary" for endorsements, campaign cash and local activist support that occurs in the year before the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

Scholars who have studied past campaigns find that party "actors" at all levels -- including officeholders, party officials and local activists -- are not only a critical leading indicator of who will become the presidential nominee, but also often a better predictor of the ultimate nominee than early polls.

The Power Outsider project has involved a weekly interview of local Republican party actors in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida.
